Synopsis for "'Mazing Man"

Denton Fixx, a writer who looks like a dog, is walking around in Queens. He just happens to be accompanied by his friend, 'Mazing Man, who thinks he is a super-hero. Suddenly, 'Mazing Man breaks into a run...to stop a toddler from eating a cigarette butt. Admonishing him for attempting to smoke, he returns the child to his mother. 'Mazing Man checks in with the other mothers, discussing his heroic deeds he performed for them in the line of duty. As the would-be super-hero leaves, one of the mothers remarks on the fact that they let a crazy man wander around without a handler. The other mothers silence her by reminder her of his good deeds.

Still wandering through Queens, 'Mazing Man confronts a thief stealing a watch. The thief barrels into Maze, putting both of them down for the count. Besides stopping crimes, 'Mazing Man also sings Simon and Garfunkel when he gets hit too hard. The local beat cop, Officer Muldavey, confronts Denton, telling him to get his friend off the street for good. Denton is unable to stomach his best friend being called crazy, and his response stops the officer cold.

The friends continue their walk, and Maze asks Denton if he thinks he is crazy. Denton dodges the question, and 'Mazing Man claims he does his good deeds because New Yorkers need the help. To prove his point, he plans to intervene in an argument between a cabbie and a cyclist, both of whom are much larger and more muscular than Maze. Furious, Denton tries to make Maze understand that the mothers and Officer Muldavey don't really like him and mock him for being different. Maze explains that he doesn't care what others think; he helps others because it's his job.

The two friends share pained looks, but a sudden scream quiets everyone around. The toddler from earlier has escaped again...this time into the middle of the street. A delivery truck speeds toward the child, and 'Mazing Man rushes to save him. Everyone holds their breath, but Maze rescues the kid. Now, instead of being mocked, he is a hero to everyone, including the once-skeptical Denton. Queens needed a hero and, with 'Mazing Man, they've got one.

Synopsis for "Y'know, After a Long, Hard Day..."

After a long day, Denton and Maze return to the apartment where they live with Denton's sister, K.P. While checking the mail for Maze's sea monkeys, the pair are bullied by a rougish character named Guido. He invites the pair to go jogging with him. Apparently, they change the mannequins in the ladies store during the afternoon, and Guido can't miss it. He's also busy training his muscles for football season, despite the fact that he works in a shoe store. Denton heads upstairs while Maze tries out Guido's training device, shooting Guido in the eye with it.

Reaching his apartment, Denton is confronted by his sister, Katherine Patricia or K.P. for short. She's Denton's stepsister, and she let Maze and Denton move in after her divorce. She's a receptionist at the dentist's office, and she's got a date tonight. Just like Guido, she always teases Maze. Maze and Denton have also been invited out tonight to their friends Brenda and Eddie's house. Brenda and Eddie are married, but K.P. has a huge crush on Eddie, who also happens to be a "cute banker." Brenda and Eddie Valentine were high school crushes, the classic cheerleader/athlete power couple. They married and seem to have the perfect relationship...

Tonight, however, they're arguing about who's going to cook dinner. Brenda angrily calls Denton and Maze to call of the meal, but changes her mind when she doesn't get an answer. The couple recall how Maze first came into their lives. On Eddie's first day as assistant manager, Denton sent over Maze to open a new account for himself. Nervous about his first day, Eddie is dismayed when he sees what his new client looks like. Struggling to talk with Maze, Eddie's boss watches over his shoulder and the other coworkers take bets on whether Eddie will get fired. The boss trips over 'Mazing Man's cape and...Eddie is removed from his reverie by Brenda throwing his ratty lucky sneakers out the window. Their lovers spat turns into an extended makeout session but the ringing of the doorbell interrupts them.

They open the door to reveal Denton and 'Mazing Man, who, in his usual peculiar manner, insisted on bringing dinner with him. Since the Valentines had neglected to cook dinner, Maze's crazy idea turned out to be a lucky move. In the end, Denton realizes why dinner never actually got cooked.
