Ab-Death was grown in a tin bucket by scientists at the United States Army's Longforth base.


  • According to Mike Carey's home blog, the origins of Ab-Death's name: "The name, by the way, is a friendly wave to China Mieville, who uses "ab-dead" as one of a list of synonyms for the undead in the magnificent novel The Scar."
  • There is no word for what he is. He is neither alive nor dead. Neither man nor woman, though physically he resembles a man.
