Synopsis for Zatanna: "The Tower of the Dead"

In the unknown dimension, Zatanna and Jeff Sloane are taken by the Bavarian savages to a wizard named Varnu, who informs them that he is required to eliminate them. In order to do so, Varnu takes Zatanna and Jeff to a mystical building called the Tower of the Dead, so named because no one has emerged from it alive.

Once inside, Zatanna uses her magic to guide their path, but the perils they encounters prevent them from reaching an exit. After fighting dozens of undead warriors, Zatanna and Jeff are confronted by a giant with a gorgon head, who turns Jeff into stone when he confronts the giant. Synopsis for Animal Man: "The Return of the Man with Animal Powers"

This story is reprinted from Strange Adventures #184.

Buddy Baker is sitting on the porch with his fiancé Ellen. He recalls his previous adventure from issue 412 in which he acquired animal powers due to an alien spacecraft explosion. The two are soon interrupted by a neighbor named Roger who notifies them that another space craft has landed in the nearby woods. As Buddy and his friend rush through town they encounter two aliens riding a huge pink beast. The aliens hit all bystanders with a hate ray and they begin fighting amongst themselves. Buddy seems unaffected but notices that his animal powers have returned. Buddy rounds up the mob of bystanders and hands them over to the Sheriff for their safety. He then finds the two yellow aliens in the woods standing at the same spot as the previous alien from issue 412. The aliens are at the location trying to find an invention that will improve their hate ray. Buddy surmises that the first alien that he encountered was probably trying to locate that same invention. Buddy tangles with the two aliens but is hit by a blast from the alien ray gun and falls into a deep cavernous dwelling. Once he hits bottom, Buddy discovers a box containing the device the aliens seek. He takes out the device and shoots the aliens with it. The aliens then fall in a hypnotic trance and obey all instructions given out by Buddy. Buddy takes them to the local jail and instructs the aliens to reverse the effects of the hate ray. The bystanders are immediately cured as Buddy escorts the two aliens and their pink beast back to their spacecraft. He instructs the aliens to inform everyone that earth is off limits.
