"Legion of Super-Heroes: "The Mutiny of the Legionnaires!"": This story is reprinted from Adventure Comics #318.

Synopsis for Legion of Super-Heroes: "The Mutiny of the Legionnaires!"

While Mon-El and Superboy continue to try and fail to pierce the "Iron Curtain of Time" that the Time Trapper has put over a future era, Cosmic Boy and Sun-Boy agree to help the population of a dying world to relocate to a new home world. Recruiting other Legion members (Light Lass, Matter-Eater Lad, Triplicate Girl, Lightning Lad and Star Boy), they load up a giant space craft with the alien race.

Along their voyage in space, the pressure of leadership gets the best of Sun-Boy who begins to strictly reprimand his fellow Legion members. Believing them to all be mutineers, Sun-Boy has the robots controlling the ship force his teammates into an escape ship and crashes it on the doomed planet. The doomed Legion members fight off various threats until they come across an ancient space craft which they cannibalize for spare parts to make their escape ship space worthy. Learning from the Science Police that Sun-Boy never met his destination, the Legion goes into space to search for him.

They eventually find Sun-Boy's ship, and a catatonic Sun-Boy on board. Returning him to Earth and getting him examined by doctors, they realize his behavior was cause from too much time in space. After Sun-Boy is cured, the Legion enact new measures limiting the amount of space missions a Legion member can take for the sake of their health.

Synopsis for Aquaman: "The Big Pull"

This story is reprinted from Aquaman #51.

Mera reveals that, after determining the truth of Ocean Master's story, she let him go. But Atlantis is now menaced by Black Manta, and Mera, despairing, tries to will Aquaman to return. Meanwhile, in the other realm, Aquaman finds that Brother Warnn cannot help him. Despite the girl Citizen's attempts to induce him to stay in their church, Aquaman leaves, battling his way past guards, and is followed by the girl, who now regards him as her friend. Later, a long distance from the city, they encounter a tribe of caveman-type telepaths. The girl, offended that they use sacred telepathy outside a church, fires at them, though Aquaman deflects their shot. Her folly has now stirred the cave-tribe against them, and Aquaman prepares to do battle.

Synopsis for Aquaman: "The Trader's Trap"

This story is reprinted from Aquaman #52.

Aquaman's and the girl's battle with the caveman tribe is cut short by the arrival of a spaceship controlled by alien slavers who transport the two of them inside their craft, intending to make them slaves. When he recovers, Aquaman is able to break free of the tube imprisoning him, and defeats the slavers in battle, though he has to leave the girl behind when he escapes. At that point he runs into the caveman tribe again, is knocked unconscious, and is bound for their "extermination chamber". When he revives, he does battle with them again. At the same time, Mera is in consternation about the presence of Black Manta outside Atlantis's walls, and, when Prof. Vulko suggests what Aquaman would do if he were here, she shouts out a despairing command for her husband to return. Astonishingly, Aquaman finds himself growing in size, emerging from the realm in which he had been lost--a subatomic universe in Mera's ring--and rejoining Mera. After their reunion, Aquaman learns of Black Manta's presence, and prepares to send the villain an ultimatum.

Synopsis for Zatanna: "The Tower of the Dead"

This story is reprinted from Adventure Comics #414.

In the unknown dimension, Zatanna and Jeff Sloane are taken by the Bavarian savages to a wizard named Varnu, who informs them that he is required to eliminate them. In order to do so, Varnu takes Zatanna and Jeff to a mystical building called the Tower of the Dead, so named because no one has emerged from it alive.

Once inside, Zatanna uses her magic to guide their path, but the perils they encounters prevent them from reaching an exit. After fighting dozens of undead warriors, Zatanna and Jeff are confronted by a giant with a gorgon head, who turns Jeff into stone when he confronts the giant. Zatanna then cast an illusion to multiply her image and force the giant to fall into an endless void she had summoned, but despite her efforts, Jeff is seemingly done for.

Synopsis for Zatanna: "Kill -- or be Killed"

This story is reprinted from Adventure Comics #415.

Zatanna ponders her next actions as Jeff Sloane has been turned to stone, but the portal back to Earth is waiting for her. Zatanna finally uses her magic to carry Jeff's statue with her through the dimensional warp and return to Earth, where Jeff returns to nomal. However, outworld demons have followed them and after confronting and defeating them, Zatanna learns that they are somehow using her father to conquer the world.

Using her magic, Zatanna transports them to where Zatara is located and they soon arrive in Manhattan, where the Master Magician is tearing apart Times Square with some monsters he has summoned. Zatanna confronts her father, but Jeff intervenes, hoping to prevent them from hurting each other. Jeff is promptly grabbed by Zatara's monsters and Zatanna is forced to attack her father with a deadly spell. Once Zatara is apparently killed, the monsters are vanished and Jeff is shocked at Zatanna's actions.

However, Zatanna knows the truth and soon, Allura is exorcised from Zatara's body. The evil sorceress was responsible for possessing Zatara in the first place with help from her demons, but now Zatanna deals with her and traps her inside a bottle with her powers. With Allura posing a threat no more, Zatara recovers and after repairing the damage caused, the trio return to Shadowcrest.

Synopsis for Newsboy Legion: "The Guardian"

This story is reprinted from Star-Spangled Comics #7.

One evening in Suicide Slum, York City, rookie cop Jim Harper gets beaten up by some thugs, and decides to take a new approach to crimefighting. He breaks into a costume shop, assembles an "action outfit" that includes a sturdy shield and a crash helmet, leaves some money on the counter, and goes after the gang. He finds them in a pool parlor and smacks the hell out of all of them. He can't arrest them, so he ties them up and leaves them for the regular police. Also one of them drops his wallet, and Harper checks the serial numbers on some of his cash; it turns out to match the serial numbers from an earlier ransom payment.

The next day, Harper arrests four quasi-delinquent, roller-skate-equipped young newspaper vendors, all orphans, pushed into crime by financial desperation, for shoplifting a hardware store. He accompanies them to their hearing, and asks the judge to keep them out of reform school, and remand them to his personal custody. He wants to try a different approach with these kids, and legally becomes their guardian.

The boys don't exactly reform instantly, and soon a local lowlife, Frankie the Fence, uses them as a distraction for an armed robbery, in which a man is killed. This doesn't sit well with the boys, who go visit Frankie to tell him off, but Frankie decides to shut up these potential witnesses with a gun. The Guardian bursts into the room, and takes down the fence with one big roundhouse punch, then lets him get away, hoping he'll run back to his unknown boss. Frankie pulls himself together and runs to the waterfront, gets in a boat, and speeds away, pursued by the Guardian, who borrows an unguarded boat, and who is in return pursued by the Newsboys, who now are stymied; the Guardian took the last boat. They convert a wooden wagon into a makeshift rowboat, and follow along as best they can, figuring along the way that a nearby lighthouse is the likeliest place for a hideout. This turns out to be correct, and at the lighthouse the Guardian has run into trouble. Frankie's boss, Chips Carder, a smuggler, has managed to head-konk the Guardian unconscious. The boys show up; Guardian sees them and the bad guys don't. Guardian suggests, in language that only Big Words understands, that they should paint the lighthouse light red. They very quickly accomplish this, then charge inside to brawl with Chips and Frankie, while the red light above draws the Coast Guard, who arrive just in time to shoot Chips Carder as he draws a bead on the Guardian's back. While the USCG is sorting things out, the Guardian slips away, and motorboats back to shore.

Before their first adventure is even over, the boys begin to suspect that the Guardian is Jim Harper.

Synopsis for Jimmy Olsen: "Elastic Lad Jimmy and His Legion Romances!"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #76.

Having invited Lucy Lane over for a date, Jimmy tries his best to try to impress her in hope that she will like him more. However, everything turns out to be uninteresting and dull compared to her other suitors. When Jimmy attempts to show her the exploits of the Legion of Super-Heroes with the aid of the time monitor they gave him, their date is interrupted by the arrival of Ultra-Boy and Sun-Boy who have come to ask for Jimmy's help on a mission in the 30th Century. Jimmy agrees to go, and tells Lucy to stay and watch him in action on the time monitor, hoping this is the ticket he needs to get her to like him.

In the future, Jimmy is left with Saturn Girl, Triplicate Girl, and Light Lass who tell him that he has to be active with the Legion at least twice a year, and so they give him a replica of his Elastic Lad costume and serum so that he can assist them in transporting a priceless Venusian idol to the Astro Museum. Along the way Jimmy not only has to deal with disasters, wild animals and criminals, but also the romantic advances of the three female Legion members.

After their mission is over, the three girls fight over Jimmy's affections until he is picked up by Ultra-Boy and Sun-Boy who return Jimmy to his own time. With Jimmy gone the girls drop their charade, having staged the whole thing, knowing that Lucy Lane would be watching on the time monitor, in hopes that their advances on Jimmy would make her jealous enough to treat him better. When Jimmy returns to his own time, he finds that Lucy had fallen asleep, and demands a taxi home after listening to Jimmy's "wild story". Watching this through their own time monitor in the 30th Century, the Legion girls are disappointed with the outcome of their little charade.

  • This is the final issue of the original 1938 series.
  • The Plastic Man story is modified to remove the epilogue cliffhanger, and replaced with modified versions of the last two story panels.
