Synopsis for Paul Kirk, Manhunter: "Manhunt on the Sun Limited"

Late one night on a lonely narrow twisting mountain road, outside the town of Huntsville, two bandits in a heavy sedan swerve up against the side of an armored car, and knock it over the edge of a tall steep cliff. The guards are all killed, and the bandits (John Smalls and “Stormy” Weathers) loot the busted-open armored car then drive away.

Paul Kirk, Manhunter, has a train to catch, headed south to work on another case, and is checking out with Tim Holden, Chief of Police, when a message comes in on the teletype: Fingerprints identify the Huntsville armored-car killers as John Smalls and “Stormy” Weathers, and they just so happen to be aboard the Sun Limited, the train that Kirk needs to catch. Kirk’s instant plan: he’ll take the train as planned, find the bandits, and turn them over to the sheriff at the last stop, which will be Center City. But he’ll need some photos from the Rogues Gallery for this to work, real quick. Minutes later the Manhunter is aboard the streamlined Sun Limited, and pulls out the photos to check them, but uh oh, these are photos of a young blonde woman and an old bearded man, they can’t be the right suspects, and it’s too late to get new photos. So Kirk devises a plan to lure the bandits to him, creating a fake bankroll out of cut-up newspaper and one twenty-dollar bill, then walking down the length of the train, to pause in each car and “accidentally” drop the bait in the aisle then quickly retrieve it. Then he waits in a roomette in one of the sleeping cars, for a long time, and he starts to wonder if this gag is going to work after all, but after a while the two bandits kick in the door and charge in with pistols brandished. But Kirk has the drop on them first, and John Smalls is caught right there, while Stormy Weathers spins and runs up the corridor. Kirk konks out Smalls with his pistol handle, then chases Weathers, who fires six shots at him and misses all of them. After that, Kirk just walks up and puts the cuffs on him.
