Synopsis for "Dear Superman"

Superman takes on Metallo on Metropolis downtown, while a young cancer patient named Connie Jo Gholson and her parents watch. Superman easily dodges Metallo's Kryptonite lasers, until he aims his weapon at Connie and her parents, forcing Superman to shield them with his body. The blast leaves Superman at Metallo's mercy until the Metropolis SCU arrives and shoots Metallo with a special kind of foam that blocks radiation, giving Superman the edge he needs to take his enemy down. Afterwards, Connie writes a letter to Superman, saying he is her favorite hero. She sends the letter to the Daily Planet, where Clark Kent can give it to Superman.

At the hospital, Connie tells her friends about Superman's fight with Metallo, until Superman arrives. Having read Connie's letter, Superman grabs a handful of sand and turns it into a pentagon-shaped crystal emblazoned with an S, much like his own chest insignia. Putting a small cape on Connie's shoulders, Superman calls her "Connie Courageous", his favorite superhero. Then, Superman leaves the hospital, but not before inspiring the children there to be heroes in their own right.

Synopsis for "In Care Of"

Lex Luthor is stuck in a traffic jam, until Brainiac arrives and makes his threat to destroy humanity, grabbing Luthor's driver hostage. Fortunately, Superman saves her and defeats Brainiac.

Later at the Daily Planet, Clark, Lois, and Jimmy receive lots of fan mail addressed to Superman. Clark reads some of the letters until he reads one from a boy named Theo, who begs Superman to save his home of Kingsbury, Indiana, from the monster that lives there. Superman quickly travels to Kingsbury and saves Theo from a trio of bullies. Then, he takes Theo out for ice cream and finds out Theo is diabetic and has stopped taking his medication. Superman asks Theo if the bullies were the monster he asked him to stop, but then, Theo transforms into a huge monster, the one he wants Superman to save Kingsbury from.

Superman attempts to calm Theo down, but Theo makes a way out and begins destroying everything in sight, forcing Superman into a fight. Theo is unable to control his monster form and threatens a couple of farmers, so he begs Superman to kill the monster. Superman agrees and Theo musters enough concentration to return to his human form. Superman takes Theo to S.T.A.R. Labs, saying he promised to kill the monster, not the child.

With enough tests, Prof. Hamilton determines Theo's medication is, in fact, making the creature stronger, but the cause of his transformations is yet unknown. There is no cure, but perhaps an ongoing treatment can be found. Superman tells Theo about this, but Theo understands. Because of Superman's actions, an entire town was saved, not just one life. With his super-hearing, Superman detects more trouble. Theo asks him to save that monster as well and Superman replies he will always try.
