Al Pratt was the first super-hero to call himself The Atom, later succeeded by Ray Palmer. Originally a Calvin College student taking the name because of his diminutive stature, he was an incredible physical combatant despite his appearance and later gained superhuman strength. His son Damage was conceived with his wife Mary Pratt, and his god-son later became his successor as Atom Smasher. He was a founding member of the Justice Society of America and the All-Star Squadron. Al Pratt was created by Bill O'Connor and Ben Flinton, first appearing in All-American Comics #19. (1940) |
