Alianna Hubbard was a one-time pawn of Granny Goodness against Mister Miracle.

At the age of 5, Alianna Hubbard suffered extensive damage to her central nervous system from an automotive accident, causing her to experience constant pain. The doctors' prognosis had it that Ali would be permanently rendered tetraplegic. However, Ali miraculously regained her locomotive abilities a mere week after the accident. As the years passed, it became apparent to Ali's mother Ida that her daughter was deeply abnormal, possessing seemingly superhuman levels of endurance and a stunted capacity for emotional expression. Both were a result of the extreme discipline that Ali learned to develop in order to live in a state of unceasing physical agony. At the age of 15, Ali became the subject of a heated debate between her parents, both of whom were abusive and controlling of her in their own way. Ida decided to live vicariously through Ali's athletic activities in order to express contempt at married life with her husband Rex, while Rex was perturbed by Ali's almost mechanical disposition and thought of her as an inhuman freak. On that day, Granny Goodness opened a Boom Tube into the Hubbard household and made a deal with Ali, whereby Granny would resolve her parents' feuding and hone Ali's physical prowess in exchange for Ali's willingness to gratify Granny by testing those abilities in a combat situation. Granny sent Ali to attack the recently purchased California home of Scott Free, where Ali used her agility, strength, and endurance to restrain Scott in the manner of a "living trap." Eventually, Ali overcame Scott and presented him to Granny, but her refusal to kill Scott exasperated Granny to the point of almost killing her in frustration. Scott recovered enough to attack Granny and fend her off, but Granny departed by informing Ali that she had already killed her parents in retribution for her insubordination. What happened to Ali next is unknown.

Powers

  • Unique Physiology: Ali is resistant to extrinsic sources of pain due to experiencing constant neuropathic pain. As a result, Ali has adapted to her nervous dysfunction by developing superhuman levels of physical and mental endurance.

Abilities

Other Characteristics

  • Mental Disorder: Ali suffers from a given degree of emotional blunting due to her condition. However, it is likely that she is not so much unable to feel emotions vividly as it is that her outward expression of emotions is muted by the immense self-discipline required to tolerate a life of constant pain sensation.

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Before being recruited by Granny Goodness, Alianna was spoken of by her mother as a possible future super-heroine, though it is probable this was said merely to exasperate Rex Hubbard.[1]
