Quote1 I think I'm failing the 'hero' test. Because when the hero meets the monster for the first time... I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to have problems controlling their bladder. Quote2

Synopsis for "The All-New Atom"

Twenty-four year old Physics professor Ryan Choi has assumed the mantle of the Atom. As the Atom, he struggles within the confines of a microscopic environment in combat with an inter-dimensional race of would-be conquerors known as the Waiting. Atom maintains radio contact with his Ivy University contemporaries who monitor his actions from inside a University office.

The Waiting deploy bug-shaped robotic drone ships to attack the Atom, but the young hero manages to avoid their laser fire, and even turns their own devices against them. He eventually comes upon a larger insectoid ship and determines that this is the central base of the Waiting. He beats up a few armored guards, and uses the control ship’s external weaponry to destroy its own generator. The Waiting (who perceive reality outside of the accepted space-time continuum) realize that their plans have failed and execute a hasty retreat. They shrink down to the subatomic level and disappear.

The microscopic environment where this brief battle took place is actually located between the hair follicles of a dog named Duster. Duster is the pet of the President of the United States, Jonathan Horne. The Waiting, presuming that the President acted in deference to the dog, sought to use mind control technology to take over the world, using the dog as their personal beachhead.

Synopsis for "My Life in Miniature (Part II) - Atomic Shell"

Ryan Choi experiments with his Bio-Belt in front of his colleagues, the Lighter Than Air Society. Shrinking down to the size of an ant, he explores the surface of a table. When he tries to spontaneously shift his size however, the belt becomes unstable, and Ryan's body begins transforming into an unexpected and horrific form. He succeeds in re-adjusting the belt and his body returns to normal.

That evening, Ryan and his friend Panda Potter go out for Chinese food. While eating, one of Ryan's students flirts with him and drops her telephone number. Ryan and Panda walk out of the restaurant and Ryan spots a homeless woman with a violin singing about a demon at the crossroads from down below. Ryan gives her a few dollars continues home.

Moments later, armored alien enforcers of the Waiting attack the homeless woman. They abduct her and bring her down into the sewers to their master M'nagalah.

Ryan arrives home, which is actually Ray Palmer's home. He finds a dog on the front step and decides to adopt it. He also finds a package from his friends at Ivy University. Opening it up, Ryan discovers a red and blue super-hero costume. The doorbell sounds and when he answers, he finds the homeless woman's broken violin with a message written on the back, "We have her. Come alone".

Remembering the old woman's song, Ryan changes into his new Atom costume and explores the city's sewer system. He comes upon the Waiting as well as the armored soldiers who attacked the old woman. These strange aliens are miniature in size, speak in multiple tenses and possess highly advanced equipment and weaponry. The soldiers corral Ryan into fleeing in a particular direction - a direction that leads him even deeper into the sewer channel. There, he encounters a hideous amorphous entity known as M'nagalah. M'nagalah tells Ryan that he has been waiting for him.

Meanwhile at Ivy University, serial killer student Sylbert Rundine returns to his dormitory after a night of "hunting". He finds a man standing in his room who offers him a bio-belt.

Synopsis for "My Life in Miniature (Part III) - Binding Energies"

At Ivy University, a mysterious stranger hands Sylbert Rundine a costume and a Bio-Belt and gives him the name Dwarfstar. He follows by saying that he has a small chore in mind for Rundine.

Meanwhile, the Atom is in the sewers of Ivy Town where he faces the monstrous entity known as M'nagalah - the Cancer God. M'nagalah claims to be the creator of all life on Earth, but now he wants Ryan Choi to merge with him and become a part of his essence. Ryan discovers that the missing homeless woman has already accepted M'nagalah's offer and her face appears in the mass of M'nagalah's flesh. Ryan doesn't understand why M'nagalah would want him. He tells him, "I shrink, I get teensy. That's all I do."

Moments later, agents of the Waiting come swarming down the sewer tunnels and attack the Atom. Ryan fights them off and destroys one of their robotic mounts. Peering into the cracked shell, he discovers a miniature particle drive. Ryan takes the device and quickly effects his escape.

The following morning, he meets with Helmond Kettering and Panda Potter and shows them the particle drive. Ryan wants to modify the drive into a "fire rocket" and use it as a weapon. Realizing that he's now officially late for his first day at work, Ryan quickly changes clothes and rushes down to Ivy University. He is greeted by one of his colleagues, Professor Doris Zuell. Zuell has a dominating personality and displays an intense interest in Ryan - notably by pressing him against the wall and kissing him. She tells him that they will go on a movie date that evening at 7:00 pm. Ryan doesn't feel that she is giving him any choice in the matter.

That evening, Ryan and Doris take in a double-feature at a drive-in. In the middle of the film, Doris begins to grow in height. She is in fact the super-villain known as Giganta. Giganta appears to be under the spell of M'nagalah and tells Ryan that the "Cancer God says hello". She scoops Ryan up in a giant hand, seals him inside a circular petri disk and swallows him. Soon after, M'nagalah rises from the depths and appears before a nest of worshipers at the movie theater.

Back at Ivy University, Panda Potter returns home to find Dwarfstar standing in his dorm. Holding a knife to Panda's throat, he tells him, "...I just want to read you a poem".

Synopsis for "My Life in Miniature (Part IV) - Aggressive Ideologies"

The Atom is trapped inside of an impenetrable sphere the size of a marble. Further, one of his colleagues from Ivy University, Professor Zuel, has swallowed him. Professor Zuel (infected by an entity known as M'Nagalah) stands over thirty-feet tall and begins stomping throughout the city.

The Atom attempts to contact Panda Potter, but Panda has his own problems. The super-villain known as Dwarfstar has broken into his home and is holding him at knifepoint. Threatening Panda, he tells him to make sure that the new Atom continues to fight on the side of the "good guys". Dwarfstar's perception of a "good guy" however differs from the norm.

As Professor Zuel continues to terrorize Ivy Town, the aliens known as the Waiting take the opportunity to attack her. Meanwhile, the Atom uses his knowledge of biology to force Zuel to regurgitate him. The insectoid Waiting ships flee from Zuel's "biological weapon".

Free of the impenetrable sphere, the Atom begins attacking the Waiting. In the middle of the fight, Ivy University's Dean Mayland pulls up in his car and compels Ryan to get inside. Driving away, he explains to the Atom that he was once close friends with Ryan’s predecessor, Ray Palmer. He further explains that Ray’s continuous experiments have permanently broken the laws of physics in Ivy Town – which is part the reason why so many strange things have been occurring.

Mayland brings Ryan back to his home where he reunites the young professor with his father. Meanwhile, Dwarfstar watches the entire affair from outside the windowsill.
