"Doc" Bundy was a Washington, D.C. gang lord. He was cybernetically enhanced by Amertek Industries to silence Steel, operating as Amalgam.

Bundy was born and raised in the ghettos of Washington, DC. As a youth, he joined one of the local street gangs and became known for his brutality.

As an adult, Bundy met a former military man named Col. Weston who felt that he could use Bundy and so took the gang-banger under his wing. Weston was the head of a corporation called Amertek, which was devoted to producing weapons for military use. Their top inventor John Henry Irons had recently left the company on moral grounds, and Weston was afraid Irons would reveal confidential information about company operations. To ensure that Irons would keep quiet, Weston decided to turn Bundy into a weapon of destruction.

Bundy underwent genetic experimentation to increase his strength to superhuman levels and had one of his arms replaced with a cyborg model and. Now known as Amalgam, Bundy was given funding by Weston to support his former street gang, the Central Avenue Skulls. The intention was to entice them into a gang war over turf rights with their chief rivals, the East Street Skulls, knowing that Irons had adopted the super-hero identity of Steel and would try to stop the gang war. Weston had hoped Amalgam would kill Irons after he arrived, but instead, Steel was able to defeat him and see to his arrest.
