Bundy was born and raised in the ghettos of Washington, DC. As a youth, he joined one of the local street gangs, and became known for his brutality. He also acquired the nickname of "Doc", though the origins of this are not yet known.

As an adult, Bundy met a former military man named Col. Weston, who felt that he could use Bundy and so took the gang-banger under his wing. Weston was the head of a corporation called AmerTek, which was devoted to producing weapons for military use; however, their top inventor, John Henry Irons…AKA Steel II…had recently left the company on moral grounds, and Weston was afraid that Irons would reveal things about AmerTek and its operations that Weston wanted kept confidential. To assure that Irons would not make such revelations, Weston decided to turn Bundy himself into a weapon of destruction.

Towards this end, Bundy underwent surgery to replace one of his arms with a cyborg model, and also genetic experimentation designed to increase his strength to superhuman levels. Now known as Amalgam, Bundy was then given funding by Weston to support his former street gang, the Central Avenue Skulls, and to entice them into a gang war over turf rights with their chief rivals, the E-Streeters. Weston did this knowing full well that Irons had adopted the super-hero identity of Steel and would try to stop the gang war; his intention was that Amalgam would then fight Steel and destroy him.

Instead, Steel was able to defeat Amalgam and see to his arrest. Bundy was tried and convicted and sent to prison, where he remains as of this writing.
