History
Alvin Rusch is the father of Jason Rusch – the current Firestorm. They live in a modest two-story home on 49 Pleasant Road in Detroit, Michigan. Alvin was formerly employed at a factory plant but is currently retired and living on disability. Many years ago, Alvin suffered a terrible accident at the plant, resulting in the loss of his left arm. The accident caused Alvin to grow bitter and despondent. He developed a rage, which he ultimately took out on his family. Refusing to suffer his abuse any longer, Alvin's wife abandoned her family when Jason was but a small boy. Alvin remained a strict authority figure in Jason's life, prone to bouts of emotional abuse and physical violence.
The DC Universe was rebooted in 2011 as part of the Flashpoint event. This was an attempt to simplify continuity, and make DC Comics more accessible to new readers. Prior to this, mainstream comics took place in New Earth continuity since the Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985. The continuity established following Flashpoint is Prime Earth.
