Amos Fortune was a persistent Justice League villain who used several luck-based ploys as the leader of the Royal Flush Gang.
History
Amos' father was a gambling addict that left his family with nothing but debt and his "lucky" playing cards at his passing. In an attempt to connect to his father's one interest, Amos became obsessed with the cards and the concept of luck. He was a quick learner, something that also came in handy for dealing with bullies who harassed him for his obesity.
Amos became the leader of a gang of juvenile delinquents and the group began stealing and running cons, stepping up their game as they grew up by learning skills from local criminals and gamblers. When they became adults, they decided to style their group after playing cards and formally created the Royal Flush Gang.[1] The group battled the Justice League on two occasions, after which Fortune abandoned the group. He eventually created the short-lived replacement Luck League and Tarot Gang to continue battling the Justice League.[2][3]
He later revived the gang in cooperation with Roulette, profiting greatly in her gambling operation. Fortune showed no hesitation to kill his own employees even had a kill switch hidden in their gear, which he made frequent use of. After the Justice League foiled his operation, Fortune managed to escape to a river boat on the Mississippi, where he was shot and killed by the widow of Two of Clubs.[4]
