Synopsis for "Godhead, Part 1"
The story begins with metahuman John Clay, the spiritual leader of his new religion the Church of Transcendence, preaching to his followers of his religion's following of transcending normal humans to being superhuman and accuses the well known Authority as an immoral group in which he claims that the 'heroes' participated in an sexual orgy last year ago.
In Salt Lake City, Utah; John Clay and Sister Voice arrives in the outskirt of the city. Clay states to Sister Voice of the hypocrisy of the city's home religion of Mormonism, apart from its polygamy, over its "no gambling" virtue while heavily investing in Las Vegas casinos. Clay then have Sister Voice devastate the city with the power of her loud voice.
In the Carrier, the Engineer and Jack Hawksmoor are making love. The Doctor enviously eavesdrop on the two from the Garden of Ancestral Memory. Jeroen's predecessor eased him to not let his jealousy overcome his (supposedly) enlightened mind.
In the state of Carolina, the white-power religious supremacists Christian Power is attacked by John Clay's helicopters when they deployed a "Rage Cage" containing a invincible bestial creature.
In San Francisco, California, Midnighter and Apollo, in their secret identities tries to find a home in order to have a normal (down to Earth) life for their daughter Jenny Quantum. After Moidnigher tossed a realtor, who recognize the heroes in their secret identities and tries to double the price of the houses that they are interest in, into the city's bay they are contacted by the Engineer needing their assistance in Salt Lake City.
Meanwhile in Tibet's Potala Palace, Swift talks to the Palace's Rinpoche expressing her guilt over killing Duval during the past battle against Reality Incorporated. Suddenly the palace is attack by winged and armed metahumans.
Notes
- Jeroen Thornedike's jealousy over the Engineer's sexual relationship with Jack Hawksmoor is a nod to the Doctor's attraction to the Engineer in the conclusion in the "Earth Inferno" story arc.
Trivia
- Though not named, the Rinpoche is obviously depicted to be the 14th Dalai Lama.
