History
Very little is known thus far of the woman calling herself Azure. (The name is derived from the Spanish word for "blue.") It is known that she is of Hispanic descent, and that she was a homeless teenager living on the streets; however, it is not yet known whether she was homeless because her parents are dead (leaving her an orphan) or because she had run away from home.
She first came to public attention when she stole an item of what she thought was costume jewelry from the home of Marie Granger, the mother of Dawn Granger, the second Dove. Unbeknownst to her at the time…and also to Mrs. Granger…the pin had a blue gemstone in it that served as a mystical conduit to the astral realm of the Aztec gods, and to the god Huitzilopochtli in particular. The supernatural powers of the gemstone did not activate in Mrs. Granger's presence, presumably because she has no Hispanic blood in her; however, when the young girl Azure came into possession of the pin, she was able to channel a portion of Huitzilopochtli's spirit, and came to believe that she was his human reincarnation. Realizing that her power was still not what it should be, however, Azure was prepared to indulge in ritual human sacrifice in a bid to increase her supernatural might, but was stopped by Hawk I and Dove II. In the battle, Dove shattered the gemstone and apparently freed Azure from the spell she was under.
Sometime later, during the massive conflict dubbed "The War Of The Gods", deities from many different pantheons manifested on Earth and did battle with one another, often using human beings as pawns. During this time, Huitzilopochtli manifested on Earth and learned that Azure had dared to impersonate him. He tried to kill her, but apparently enough of his godly energy had come to Azure earlier to allow her to absorb his entire being into her body, effectively killing him. Since that time, however, Huitzilopochtli's spirit and consciousness appear to have taken over Azure's body, and she now has become his puppet.
When she was last seen, Azure was working alongside CIRCE and numerous other female villains for an assault on Wonder Woman. The attack failed, largely through the intervention of numerous other female heroes who assisted Wonder Woman, and Azure managed to escape. She remains at large as of this writing, her precise whereabouts and activities unknown.
