HistoryEdit

The first wife of Gotham City police commissioner James W. Gordon and the mother of James Gordon, Jr., little is known of Barbara's early life. Barbara and James (then a police lieutenant) moved to Gotham from Chicago, Illinois shortly before the couple discovered that they were expecting their first child. A short time later, Lt. Gordon was assigned to track down the mysterious "Bat-Man". After James, Jr. was born, Barbara discovered that her husband was having an affair with his partner, Sarah Essen. This and other tensions in their marriage eventually led Barbara to divorce her husband and leave Gotham with their son.

The DC Universe heavily changed its continuity into the DCnU following the events of Flashpoint in 2011. This was part of an effort to make storylines more accessible to newer readers, beginning with the New 52. This new timeline combines elements from the DCU, Vertigo Universe and Wildstorm Universe while drastically changing the origins and histories of characters.

Following the defeat of Mirror by Batgirl, the young Barbara Gordon received a visit from her long-estranged mother, Barbara Eileen Gordon. Naturally, her daughter wasn't pleased to see her, and not eager to welcome Barbara Eileen back into her life.

Barbara Eileen intended to move back to Gotham City, and eventually worked up the courage to speak to her former husband, Jim, who had never stopped loving her, despite the fact that she left. When asked why she left, she explained that it was for the sake of their son James, Jr.
