Synopsis for "Batgirl"

Oracle prepares to talk to Batman about Batgirl's obsession with her vigilante role and the little she knows about Batman himself; but she is distracted when her computer intercepts an emergency call coming from Wayne Manor. Oracle tries to locate Batman, but he is nowhere to be foud and at the moment while she listens to the desperate cries for help from a woman that is being attacked in Wayne Manor. Oracle then tries to locate Nightwing but he doesn't answer, leaving her to assume that he is on duty at the Bludhaven PD. Oracle then thinks of Black Canary, but she rethinks the situation and decides that it's too risky to send her into Batman's place. Her last choice is Robin, but she stops herself when she hears gunshots from the emergency call and the police state there has been a homicide. Oracle decides that Robin is not the man for this case and so she summons...

Batgirl arrives at the scene and Oracle gives her clear instructions: to get as many information about the crime as possible. With help of a camera attached to Batgirl's cowl, Oracle gets a glimpse of the arrest of Bruce Wayne, but as soon as Batgirl enters the Manor, the signal is cut off.

Batgirls enters the manor and finds that half of the GCPD is already inside at the crime scene. However, using her superior stealth skills, she manages to take a good look at the dead body on Wayne Manor. Batgirl heads outside the place and reports to Oracle about her work. Oracle informs Batgirl about the lack of connection inside the manor and she tells Batgirl to get inside once again while she works on a stronger connection for her camera and asks her to stay at the place until she manages to do it.

Batgirl gets inside again and learns about the search of the murder weapon somewhere in the manor. Then, she goes into the living room and takes a look at a big portrait of a couple on top of the fireplace. She notices someone approaching and she hides from view, but stays in the room. There are a couple of police officers looking for the gun, but when they find nothing, they take a look at the many portraits in the room. One of them takes a look at the portrait Batgirl was looking moment before, and recalls the people in it: Thomas and Martha Wayne. The officer mentions that there is no surprise on Bruce Wayne's criminal attitude, since he saw his parents being killed in front of him when he was just a kid. They leave the room and Batgirl is more intrigued about Bruce Wayne.

Oracle contacts Batgirl and tells her that it is impossible to establish a connection and then she asks Batgirl to get out of the manor without being noticed by the army of police officers outside, and reach a safe place where she can report back everything she learned at the place. Batgirl moves on outside and she gets lucky, when the police attention is drawn towards the murder weapon, found somewhere near the Manor.

Moments later, at the Batcave, Cass reports everything she learned in the crime scene to Oracle, who seems deeply distressed about Wayne's involvement in the crime. When Cass is done, Oracle cuts off the communication and Cass is really interested in learning more about Bruce Wayne. She starts looking for information on Bruce Wayne on the Batcomputer and it only takes her a couple of seconds before figuring out that Bruce Wayne is Batman.

DC Rebirth Logo

This comic issue is a part of the Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive story that went through every Batman Family title in 2002. Bruce Wayne was framed for the murder of his love interest Vesper Fairchild and forced to go on the run from the law so he could prove his innocence. This adventure almost completely compromised his identity from the inside.
