A Lonely Place of Dying is a Batman storyline written by Marv Wolfman with illustrations by George Perez and Jim Aparo. Published in 1989 as a crossover between Batman and New Titans, the story introduces Tim Drake, who becomes the third Robin following the death of Jason Todd in A Death in the Family.

Batman has not been the same after the death of Jason Todd at the hands of the Joker and he has become reckless on his crime fighting activities. Alfred notices the drastic change as a result of having to tend Bruce's injuries one too many times after the death of Robin. However, Alfred is not the only one who has noticed this as another person is also concerned about Batman's change and starts looking Nightwing for help.

Meanwhile, Batman has to deal with the threat of Two-Face, who has returned to crime at the behest of a voice coming from his radio, which he believes is his subconscious. Batman becomes driven and determined to capture Two-Face, even coming up with a plan to lure Two-Face out of hiding. As this happens, Dick Grayson goes to Haly's Circus after learning that the business is selling after a series of unfortunate events. While at the circus, Grayson finds the responsible for the accidents and becomes the co-owner of the place. However, he also meets with Tim Drake, a teenager who has been a long-time fan of him since he performed as the Flying Graysons and has also deduced the whole truth about Batman and Robin.

Dick is convinced to go back to Gotham in order to assist Batman agaist Two-Face and prevent him from killing himself. However, Tim wants Dick to resume his role as Robin, but he refuses, choosing to help his mentor using his new identity as Nightwing. Knowing that he might need assistance, Batman sends a coded message to Nightwing, which is picked up by the Titans and the message is soon relayed to Nightwing. With the information, Batman and Nightwing are back together and they attempt to stop Two-Face, only to fall into the madman's master trap.

Tim Drake and Alfred know that the heroes are in danger and they go to assist them. Tim Drake chooses to take the Robin suit with him and he wears it when the time comes to confront Two-Face. The villain manages to escape, but Tim saves Batman and Nightwing. The Dark Knight is not pleased with Drake becoming Robin, but with Two-Face on the loose, Batman focuses on capturing the criminal. Batman, Nightwing and Tim locate Two-Face thanks to Tim's quick thinking and after capturing him, Batman admits that he was convinced with Tim's performance and he would work with the youngster to train him and get him ready to become the new Robin.
