This paperback collects the Batman: Death and the City storyline. It consists of several separate stories. Most of these stories were written by Paul Dini, one two-part story was written by Stuart Moore and one story was written by Royal McGraw. The stories were illustrated by Don Kramer, and Andy Clarke. The stories were originally published from March to September, 2007 in Detective Comics, after Paul Dini's Batman: Detective. After that Dini wrote part of the The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul storyline and the Private Casebook arc.

In this story Batman lives up to his reputation as the World's Greatest Detective as he takes on such evildoers as the Ventriloquist, Scarface, Vox, Harley Quinn, the Terrible Trio and more.
