Synopsis for "Scared Straight"

Spook is released from Blackgate Penitentiary on good behavior, and he begins living in a halfway house. Batman is skeptical of his reformation and sets his allies to watch him. Nightwing and Robin witness him use his hypnotic powers on a bank teller, and they confront him outside the bank, warning him to return the money.

He does so, and on his way out, he is found by an accomplice of KGBeast who drives him to a warehouse. The men waiting at the warehouse are already unconscious when he gets there, and Batgirl hands him a tape of her defeating all the men to watch later. This horrifies the Spook, who the next day uses his powers to convince a clerk in a convenience store that he was robbing it with a gun. He is brought back to Blackgate, musing that Gotham is just one big prison where the guards are always watching.

Bane, meanwhile, continues his search for his father with Bruce's financial support. Bruce considers the mission Bane's salvation, but while Alfred Pennyworth can understand Bruce's desire to give financial aid to the widow of a Checkmate agent whose death he feels responsible for, he disapproves of his assistance to Bane.
