Synopsis for "Pushback, Book Five"

In Star City, Green Arrow leads a team of SWAT men on a raid on the motel Hush was staying in. They find the equipment used in Prometheus' surgery, but neither him or Hush. In Gotham, the Riddler demands to see the Joker, but the henchmen protecting him refuse. On the rooftops, Batman gets a call from Green Arrow telling him the results of the raid. Robin arrives and says that he could not find the Riddler or the Joker. Batman explains that he's scared for his friends, that they'll be caught in the crossfire. Robin responds that they all know the dangers, and accepted them a long time ago. In the Joker's hideout, the Joker, the Penguin and the Riddler discuss the past. The Joker had been married, and expecting a child. But he'd got caught up in a robbery at the place he worked. His wife asked him to duck out of the job, but the crooks wouldn't let him. They'd even got a special outfit to hide his identity: the Red Hood outfit. He tried to walk out anyway, but when he got home, he found his wife had been kidnapped as an incentive to go through with the job. So he did. But Batman crashed the robbery, and knocked him into a vat of chemicals, changing him to the Joker. Escaping, he found his flat on fire. By pure coincidence, the Riddler had acquired an apartment opposite Gotham First National bank, which he'd planned to rob. But he saw, through binoculars, a corrupt cop put an unconscious pregnant women in a flat and smash the boiler. Shortly after, the boiler exploded. On the street, the Riddler got a good look at the cop who'd started the fire, and his name badge, as the emergency services cleared the area. As he was leaving, he spotted the Joker watching the fire in despair. Later, he went to the funeral of the woman, and saw her widower, a man he'd be seeing more of as he began the fight Batman, the Joker. In the present, the Joker announces his intentions to find, talk to and kill Oliver Hammet. A car travels from Star City to Gotham.
