- I know you're not Batman--not the one who's looked out for this city! Not the one I know!
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #28 is an issue of the series Batman: Shadow of the Bat (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1994.
Synopsis for "Commissioner Gordon: The Long Dark Night"
Batman let Abattoir die. He doesn't feel good nor bad about it; he feels righteous. The Gotham City Police Department is looking for Abattoir's hostage Graham Etchinson as they already know about Abattoir's death.
As the police continued their search, a street gang is planning an attack on a fancy restaurant at night. They would ask protection money from the other restaurants in the city. At twilight Detective Bullock and Detective Montoya have searched all possible locations except for an abandoned warehouse. They entered the warehouse to find Etchinson's lifeless body in Abattoir's torture machine. They let Commissioner Gordon know about it and he hurries to activate the batsignal. Batman arrived at the GDPD's rooftop and Gordon told him that he already knew he wasn't the original Batman and demanded a reckoning of Batman's actions that have cost an innocent man's life. Batman told Gordon that he would do whatever was necessary to cleanse the city and complete his crusade. After Batman left, Gordon, feeling wrathful, destroyed the batsignal with his gun.
On his way, Batman saw the street gang that was about to wreck the restaurant and stopped them with violence and brutally beat them. Gordon listened to what happened on the radio and felt alone, betrayed and wondering where was his friend and why did he left him.
Batman returned to the batcave and started to sketch a new design for the batsuit; the ultimate Batman.
