This book collects the Batman: The Long Halloween storyline which was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale. It was published from December, 1996 to December, 1997 in its own comic book series Batman: The Long Halloween.

In this story Batman struggles to find an elusive, mysterious serial killer who strikes only on holidays. Batman discovers no shortage of suspects in a Gotham City beset by mobsters and freakish costumed criminals, any one of whom could be his prey.

  • This paperback contains an introduction by its writer, Jeph Loeb.
  • A hardcover edition of this collection was first published in October 1998, followed by a trade paperback edition first published in November 1999 which received five printings with three different covers between 1999 and 2012.
  • A hardcover Absolute Edition was published in April 2007. It contained never-before-published artwork and interviews with the creators.
  • On October 1, 2014, a special "Noir" edition was released.
  • A Deluxe Edition of this collection was published in 2021. It features a new cover by Tim Sale and extras previously published in the Absolute Edition.
