Synopsis for "Tree of Knowledge"

Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson develop a rivalry in Gotham University's Criminology 101 course, causing Professor Bart Morton to identify them as the class's top pupils. Professor Morton assigns Barbara and Dick to an exclusive research project; meanwhile, the rest of the class is taken on a field trip to see the MacGuffin Pistols, a pair of antique revolvers once owned by an infamous 19th century outlaw. Shortly after the field trip, Professor Morton secretly steals the pistols.

Upon hearing of the theft, Barbara and Dick immediately investigate as Batgirl and Robin. Together, they eventually ascertain that Professor Morton was responsible, and track him down just in time to defeat the gangsters he'd intended to fence the pistols through. Batgirl then corners Professor Morton, who confesses he'd stolen the pistols to learn how a "real" criminal thinks and begs Batgirl to spare him, promising he will never commit another crime.

Batgirl is unmoved, and brings her formerly-beloved professor to the police. Subsequently, both Barbara and Dick quite the criminology course, having decided there is nothing more for them to learn.
