Synopsis for "Episode One"
This story is reprinted from All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder #1.
Vicki Vale is in her penthouse when she receives a call from Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred tells her that Bruce Wayne requests her presence this evening for a date to the circus. Vicki is elated at the chance to go out with Gotham City's most eligible bachelor.
Bruce picks her up and the two spend the evening watching the Flying Graysons – a family of aerialists. They are particularly impressed with the death-defying ability of the Grayson’s young son, Dick. After the finale, two shots ring out and Dick’s parents fall over dead.
Bruce Wayne changes into Batman and apprehends the gunman – Jocko-boy Vanzetti. While Batman deals with Jocko, the corrupt Gotham City Police Department canvas the area. They take the orphaned Dick Grayson into their care, much to the chagrin of Vicki Vale. Vicki doesn't trust the GCPD's intentions, so Alfred and she begin tailing them in Bruce's Rolls Royce.
The police car pulls off at Galt's Gulch, and Dick tells them that he can identify his parents' killer. This is not information that the police really wish to see spread about. They prepare to terrorize Grayson when a wave of bats descends upon them. Batman arrives on the scene in the Batmobile and snatches up Dick Grayson while the cops try to fend off the frenetic bats. Grabbing Grayson by the shirt collar, Batman growls, "On your feet, solider. You've just been drafted. Into a war."

Synopsis for "Batman & Son, Part 1: Building a Better Batmobile"
This story is reprinted from Batman #655.Commissioner Gordon is thrown off a rooftop by the Joker and caught by the GCPD, laughing from Joker Venom all the way down. On the rooftop, Joker has caught someone he believes to be Batman and is beating him to death with a crowbar while disabled children tied to the Jokercopter watch. This man is revealed to be an impostor when he takes out a gun and shoots Joker in the face. The real Batman arrives in time to rescue the Joker and take the impostor into custody. He carries Joker to the ambulance through an alleyway covered in the graffiti phrase "Zur En Arrh," then throws Joker into a dumpster and leaves. In the hospital afterwards, Gordon recovers from the Joker toxin while they discuss the case. Gordon explains that the impostor was an ex-cop who snapped and put on a Batsuit, then congratulates Batman as Joker was the last major criminal he needed to put away.
Back at Wayne Manor, Bruce exercises, is served his dinner alone, and repairs the Batsuit in preparation for the next night. In the Batcave he mentions to Alfred that Gordon said he should get out of the city more, and Alfred returns that Bruce is using his Batman growl in everyday speech. Robin arrives and explains that the city is dead, as rumors have spread that Batman finally had enough and shot Joker in the face. Bruce approves of the rumors, and Tim sees he is developing a new Batmobile but Bruce tells him not to peek. Robin leaves by motorcycle to spend some time on his own in the mountains, and reminds Bruce that the last time he took a vacation he wiped out Gotham's super-crime in a month. Bruce agrees that he needs to loosen up as he is seeing super-villains everywhere.Elsewhere, Talia al Ghul and the League of Assassins threaten Kirk Langstrom. They kidnap his wife Francine and inject her with a degenerative neuro-bacillus that will cripple her in 24 hours unless he delivers them the Man-Bat Serum. Talia observes Bruce's plane by satellite with a small boy next to her, and says his past is catching up with him. Bruce travels to an Action for Africa fundraiser in London, where he meets with the nervous Langstrom who excuses himself and hands over the serum to the League.
Alfred coaches Bruce on his millionaire playboy persona, as his voice has become too gravelly and it's been too long since he's been on the gossip columns. He asks him when was the last time he really enjoyed being an international playboy, and mentions girlfriends of the past such as Julie Madison, Kathy Kane, Silver St. Cloud and Vicki Vale. They practice tone and posture.
The gala is held in a museum exhibition displaying early comic book artwork. Bruce attends the gala fundraiser and enjoys flirting with socialites and starlets, although Alfred tells him to lose the growl and retreats to the car. Talia observes the party with her child, and the boy is able to recognize Bruce Wayne as his father. It's shown that they now have an army of Ninja Man-Bats, and Talia says they will now say hello.

Synopsis for "The World's Finest"
This story is reprinted from Superman/Batman #1.
The never ending battle begins in Metropolis with Metallo attacking Star Labs for reasons unknown. After blasting Superman with a dose of Kryptonite from his heart, Metallo flees informing Superman that nothing will stop him from "putting an end to it".
The scene switches to Gotham City Cemetery where Batman investigates multiple graves that have been desecrated. Superman interrupts and tells Batman that he's looking for John Corben whose metal body is breaking down. He's in Gotham City looking for the remains of his human body. Superman tries to tell him more about Corben's past when he and Batman are attacked by Metallo, who is carrying his coffin.
During the fight, Metallo shoots Superman with a bullet made from Kryptonite. Superman falls into one of the open graves while Batman uses an explosive to blown Metallo apart. While Metallo slowly reconfigures, Batman tries to extract the bullet from Superman's chest but can't before Metallo buries them alive.
Meanwhile at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., President Lex Luthor is being briefed by Captain Atom on a gigantic asteroid the size of Brazil composed of Kryptonite that is headed for Earth. Fearing radiation poisoning from the asteroid, Atom recommends informing Superman to which Luthor declines, insisting that the government will handle it. "Given the countless times Superman has saved us all, isn't it time we return the favor?", Luthor states to Captain Atom, Major Force and a number of mysterious figures obscured in shadow.
