Synopsis for "Darkness in the Dream Chamber"
Under the influence of the Sleeper's gas, Batman deals with nightmarish hallucinations and ends up falling from the rooftop he and Sleeper were standing. Sleeper assumed the fall killed Batman and left the place. Batman managed to hang from an old statue a few inches above the ground.
At her temple/hideout, Sleeper begs her goddess forgiveness for her failure. Remmy, a very muscular man told her not to worry and to continue worshipping the goddess. She continued doing so and and avoided sleep at all cost. Meanwhile in the GCPD, Mackenzie Bock reported the events of the murder to Commissioner Gordon.
That night at Wayne Manor; Bruce arranged a dinner with some people, one of which was Dr. Gnossos; an expert in the sleep deprivation field. Bruce asked him a lof of questions to understand better how the process of sleep-deprivation worked and who might be working on similar projects at the time. With all those details and after getting rid of a persistent guest named Madolyn Corbett; he started to track the killer with the info he obtained from the previous victims. All information pointed to the same man; Remmy.
Remmy was a member of an agency that worked on hypnosis, making human weapons by interfering the minds of the test subjects; the same that Mekros had belonged. Remmy received a call telling him that the "Sleeper Project" was out of control and that the agency would bring him down for that. Remmy tried to save Sleeper as he fell in love with her. He explained Sleeper that they had to leave but she was too unstable and stabbed Remmy in the chest. Remmy knocked her out in self defence but he didn't meant to harm her. Batman arrived and confronted Remmy. As they were fighting, an agent arrived and shot Remmy, killing him instantly. Batman knocked the agent and left the place for the police to handle it.
In the end, Batman watches the Sleeper from the distance. The injury left her in coma; ironically, in a permanent state of sleep.
