Synopsis for "Batman & Son Part 4: Absent Fathers"

Batman bursts into the Batcave to find Robin, injured at Damian's hands, laying on the ground. He administers first aid and frees Alred, himself injured, from where Damian had locked him and he provides additional medical care.

Damian meanwhile, is still determined to prove his worth to Batman. He continues to wear his modified Robin costume and considers himself Batman’s sidekick. To prove his worth he offers information on his mother Talia's current whereabouts in Gibraltar.

Before departing for Gibraltar, Batman visits Kirk and Francine Langstrom who are in the middle of an argument about Kirk's work on his Man-Bat serum. After getting some help from the Langstroms, Batman and Damian board a Bat-Rocket and take off for Gibraltar. When they arrive, they find that Talia has surrounded herself with an army of Man-Bats. Brandishing a sword, Batman and Damian fight through a swathe of Man-Bats and rescues the Prime Minister's wife.

When they come face-to-face Talia announces that she planned for Batman to meet for this confrontation and bring Damian. She tempts him with a last chance to "conform" her by joining forces to raise their child together. When he denies she instead promises him war, noting that he is responsible. When Damian is offered a choice between them, he choses to stay with his mother. British Navy torpedoes strike the submarine they were standing on, appearing to kill Talia and Damian in the explosion.

Notes

  • First appearance of the Bat-Rocket. The rocket disembarks from a concealed silo beneath a fountain on the Wayne estate.

Trivia

  • The final page has a "Joker card" on the next issue banner, but the Joker doesn't return until Batman #663.
