Ben Hunter was a homicide detective who was recruited by the United States Army to lead a Special Forces team to fight the threat of the Axis powers during World War II.
History
This unit he led composed of military prisoners, in which Hunter dubbed his unit "Hellcats". Hunter was able to discipline and won the respects from the most hardcase members of the Hellcats, and galvanizing them into a capable hard fighting team. He lead the Hellcats throughout the most dangerous missions in Europe and Asia until the end of the war. Following the dissolution of the Hellcats, Hunter remained with the U.S. Army and ultimately achieved the rank of Colonel.[1] Hunter eventually married and gave birth to twin sons, Nick and Phil. The siblings followed in their father's footsteps, each of them forging their own reputations during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War.[1]

- Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced): Ben Hunter was a proficient hand-to-hand combatant and could easily handle himself in a fight against one or multiple opponents.
- Leadership: Ben Hunter had remarkable leadership qualities and was able to command the respect of the rough and tumble members of the Hellcats.
- Tactical Analysis: Lt. Hunter was an expert military tactician.
Notes
- Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
- Although it has been established that Ben Hunter was married prior to siring his sons, Phil and Nick, it is unknown whether Ben remained married in the latter years of his life.
Trivia
- Although Ben Hunter's activities chronologically take place prior to those of his own children, the Hunter twins actually predate their father's first appearance by several issues. Nick and Phil Hunter first appeared in Our Fighting Forces #99.
