Synopsis for "The Shadow World"
Constantine leads Timothy (and his new owl Yo-Yo) on a tour of magical enclaves in modern-day America, such as Madame Xanadu's curio shop, the Corrigan Detective Agency, and Wintersgate Manor. The tour proves a dangerous one, as a rival sect of mystics known as the Brotherhood of the Cold Flame have learned of Timothy, and placed a heavy price on his capture and/or death.
With help from the likes of Deadman, the Spectre, and Doctor Fate, Constantine and Timothy defy several assassination attempts and manage to reach the home of Zatanna - one of the few mystics who remains genuinely friendly with Constantine. There, Constantine finds a letter from his fellow "educators", calling for a joint attack on the Brotherhood's Calcutta headquarters. Though annoyed, Constantine obeys the summons, leaving Timothy in Zatanna's care.
The following night, while Constantine and his companions make war on the Brotherhood, Zatanna brings Timothy to a nightclub that serves as a truce zone for mystics of all kinds, including warlocks and demons. Unfortunately, the Brotherhood's bounty proves stronger than any truce considerations, and Zatanna and Timothy quickly find themselves cornered by over a hundred bounty-seekers. At the last second, however, they are rejoined by Constantine, who delivers them safe passage with a series of veiled threats.
As the trio leave, Constantine cheerfully admits his threats were bluffs, backed by little actual power - but guile is its own sort of magic, and one that stronger mystics are rarely prepared for. He and Timothy then bid Zatanna goodbye and return to England, where Doctor Occult stands ready for the next lesson.
