Synopsis for "The Lords of Luck"
Green Lantern is flying through outer space when he finds a dead man with a bullet hole in his chest floating before him. Recognizing that such a mystery requires a great detective, he transmits a signal to Batman at the Batcave. Oddly enough, there is a similar man lying dead on the floor of the Batcave. GL flies to Gotham and the two heroes begin investigating the mystery. While they analyze the evidence, a large yellow energy monster breaks into the cave and attacks them. They manage to dispel the creature using old trophies that Batman acquired from previous cases.
Returning their attention towards the mysterious duplicate dead men, they decide to continue their investigation at the Kismet Casino in Las Vegas. When they arrive, they find that the Kismet has come under new ownership – Roulette.
Suddenly, a group of aliens from the planet Ventura arrives and attacks the casino. They are looking to retrieve an artifact in Roulette's possession, an item that enables her to function as the ultimate gambler – the Book of Destiny. Batman manages to save Roulette's life, but it is clear that her brief possession of the book has driven her nearly mad.

Synopsis for "Part II"
Green Lantern and Supergirl fly to the gambling world of Ventura in search of the Book of Destiny. Due to Ventura's strict laws, Hal is forced to shed his Green Lantern vestments and take on a disguise as one of the locals.
Supergirl likewise adopts a less heroic costume and enters into one of Ventura's more popular combat trials. Knowing that the odds are stacked against her, Supergirl is counting on the fact that whoever has the Book of Destiny is likely the only gambler on Ventura who would actually bet on her to win. Supergirl easily disposes of the reigning champions, the Brothers Gragg, and is quickly able to discern the identity of the man with the book.
Hal's fortune is not as complimentary as Supergirl's, and he is soon forced to reveal himself as a Green Lantern. Reuniting with Supergirl, they manage to catch up with the man in possession of the book. As luck would have it however, another patron attacks the thief and absconds with the Book of Destiny. This individual is from the planet Rann, and uses Zeta-Beam technology to instantly teleport off the planet. Green Lantern is caught in the wake of the Zeta-Beam and disappears, leaving Supergirl stranded on Ventura.
Back on Earth, Batman flies to Texas to investigate a lead on the Book of Destiny. His search brings him into contact with Jaime Reyes, the new Blue Beetle.

Synopsis for "Part V"
Batman's interaction with the Harsupex brings him to the 31st century and placed in the charge of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Brainiac 5 examines him and determines that the Haruspex has created chronal anomolies within Batman's cellular structure. As long as he remains where he is, temporal rifts will begin to form. Unfortunately, the Legion does not possess the means to return him to his normal timeline. One of the temporal rifts opens and a group of Intellagents pours outward. While the Legion engages the Intellagents, Batman steals Brainiac 5's flight ring and makes his escape.
Meanwhile, Supergirl meets back up with Green Lantern on the planet Rann where she meets Adam Strange. Strange escorts them to a group of ruins under the control of General Mondath. Mondath has the Book of Destiny, which foretells the immediate arrival of the Luck Lords.
In the 31st century, the Legion mobilizes and begins tracking down Batman. Brainiac reconfigures the remote access on his flight ring enabling the rest of the team to home in on the ring's location. Batman is a better tactician than the Legion members however and manages to take them down one by one.
Saturn Girl suddenly comes upon a startling realization. In trying to evade capture, Batman is actually trying to save the 31st century. The power of the Haruspex will only activate when it's target is perceived as a threat. Saturn Girl broadcasts a telepathic warning, but it is too late. Phantom Girl has the Haruspex and fires it at Batman. There is a blinding flash of blue light and Batman disappears.
When next he opens his eyes, he sees one of the Luck Lords standing over him holding the Book of Destiny.
