Brenda Del Vecchio is best friends with Jaime Reyes, the third Blue Beetle and Paco Testas. The friends grew up together in El Paso, Texas. She was raised by her sick mother who eventually died, leaving her alone with her alcholic abusive father. She has said that she feels she can be herself around her friends even when she showed up with bruises.
When Jaime disappeared for a year, Brenda was hauled in by the cops for questioning. Although she was released very quickly, when she came home her enraged father hit her hard enough to hospitalize her. Shortly after this incident her father was killed in what appeared to be an accident caused by driving under the influence of alcohol. Brenda moved in with her aunt, "Tia" Amparo. She continues to be a close friend with Jaime and helps him with his crimefighting when she can.
