Brother Eye was originally a satellite created by Bruce Wayne to record all possible information on Earth's Metahumans. Batman used this information to create strategies to defeat them in combat if the need ever arose. The creation of Brother Eye backfired on Batman when the satellite became sentient, and Batman lost control of the device to Maxwell Lord. Lord used Brother Eye to begin spreading the OMAC virus, but Lord was stopped by the Justice League and the Satellite was apparently destroyed. Unknown to Batman and the rest of the League however, Brother Eye survived by downloading itself onto a hub in the Gotham Sewers beneath the Knightsdome Sporting Complex.
When Brainiac began his attack on Earth, he contacted the hidden Brother Eye and made it a part of his arsenal. While the heroes and villains of the planet were distracted by the Exobytes, Brainiac used Brother Eye to unleash the OMAC virus once again on Gotham. Unable to deal with the problem himself, Batman sent a group of heroes powered by the Exobytes to stop the OMAC units and to hunt down and destroy Brother Eye, alongside Fire. Hearing of the heroes problem, Lex Luthor sent word to a few Exobyte powered villains to do the same, backed up by Killer Frost. The Joker was willing to pay a small sum for any villain who returned evidence of Batman's construction of Brother Eye or anything that could link his nemesis to the OMAC virus, believing that proof of Batman's failure to be something of precious value to himself.
Though the heroes and villains appeared to destroy Brother Eye once again in the sewers beneath Gotham, the machine was protected by Brainiac. Deciding to launch an attack on The Batcave, Brainiac deployed his forces to Batman's home intent on capturing it, secretly sending Brother Eye in among the rest of his forces, secretly converting the cave into a Brainiac Construct while Batman and his allies were distracted. Once it had infiltrated the cave, Brother Eye infected Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Batwoman and Huntress with the OMAC virus. The Exobyte Heroes and Villains were quickly on the scene to stop Brother Eye once again, and were able to rescue the heroes and stop the machine once and for all.
