Captain Bruce Blackburn was an espionage agent for United States military intelligence, when his photograph and identity as an intelligence officer were leaked to the press.
History
So Blackburn and his subordinate (and good friend) Lieutenant Jackson both faked their own deaths, and then had plastic surgery to change their faces so they would not be recognized, and also to be identical to each other (enabling them to substitute for each other, an ability that came in handy in their line of work).
After the surgery, Blackburn devoted himself to counterespionage, the finding, unmasking, and capture or killing of enemy agents.

On occasion, when he needed extra anonymity for a case (or when he would like to scare his enemies), Blackburn donned the super-hero costume of the Destroying Demon.[1]

- This version of Bruce Blackburn, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
- The general public believes Bruce Blackburn is dead. While he still calls himself Bruce Blackburn when among his co-workers in military intelligence, he always uses a false identity when out in public. No one recognizes him, because of the plastic surgery.
- Blackburn operates out of a fake antique shop in New York City. The shop is connected by a secret tunnel to Blackburn's house on H Street.
