C.C. Haly was the proprietor of Haly's Circus and performed different venues all throughout the United States. Haly's most beloved performers were the acrobatic aerialists the Flying Graysons.

Haley was approached by Boss Zucco's men who wanted to blackmail him and his business for protection money. When Haley refused to pay, Zucco's men tampered with the ropes used on the Flying Grayson's act, leading to John and Mary Grayson to die during the show. Not long after this, Haley learned about Zucco's capture at the hands of Batman and Robin.

Earth-One

Many years later, Haly continued running the circus and he eventually deduced that Robin was none other than the young Dick Grayson, although he kept it a secret. Haly was able to keep in business thanks to an anonymous benefactor, which was in fact Bruce Wayne.[2]

Post-Crisis

After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Haly's history remained unchanged until the creation of Robin and the capture of Zucco. In this new continuity, Zucco was not as old as he was previously. He also continued in business without financial aid and so, Haly's Circus was on the verge of bankrupcy after a series of unfortunate events. Haly eventually met Dick Grayson after several years and this time, he was not aware of his secret identity. After learning of the circus' situation, Dick Grayson became the co-owner and funded the organization to keep it in business.[3]

Abilities

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • On Earth-One, Haly's first name was Jack.[4]
  • The real first name of this character has been unclear in the post-Crisis era. For instance, he was called "Harrison H. Haly" in New Titans #60, among others.
