Synopsis for "Lessons in Nuclear Physics"

Upon Captain Atom inspecting the depowered Engineer, Grifter is shocked in learning to hear from him that Atom and the Engineer fell in love with each other. Both Atom and Grifter are then faced by Midnighter and Apollo. After Apollo have taken the Engineer back to the Carrier, Midnighter battles Grifter while Apollo assault Captain Atom. As Apollo attacks Atom, Atom then analyzed Apollo and discover a way to beat him. He then spit Apollo, provoking him to send both of them to the sun via 'door'. As Apollo strangle Atom while charge with immense solar power, however, use his power to manipulate the sun's nuclear energies to give Apollo a near fatal overdose.

Back on Earth, Midnighter have Grifter badly beaten, but as he prepare to strike him, Nikola destroy Midnighter's baton, though only with a minor amount of her power. 'Impressed' with Nikola, Midnighter easily attack her and then focusing his attention back on Grifter. However, as Mignighter grasp hold of Grifter's head, Captain Atom, returning back to Earth through a door, sends Apollo into Midnighter defeating both of them.

Meanwhile at Mount Rushmore, Mister Majestic receives information from his difference engine about Atom and Grifter's fight in New York City and quickly learns that Captain Atom is still a threat to the universe. Majestic then travels to the Carrier and confronts Jack Hawksmoor. After learning from Hawksmoor about killing Captain Atom and seeing it to be a grave mistake, Majestic demands him to call off Apollo and Midnighter.

Back on Earth, Midnighter regains consciousness and throws his shurikens into Grifter's back. Though wounded, Grifter prepares to shoot back at Midnighter, but his head is then incinerated by Apollo and is killed.

Observing the battle from the Carrier, Majestic is infuriated of what have happen to Grifter and again demands Hawksmoor to call off his teammates' attack or else he will stop their fight personally. However, Majestic is frozen in time by The Doctor. Refuse in hearing of Majestic's beliefs and theories, both the Doctor and Hawksmoor believe that the death of Captain Atom is the only way to save their universe. Hawksmoor then commands Apollo and Midnighter to bring Atom back to the Carrier in order to avoid any potential damages to New York City.

Midnighter and Apollo immediately pushes Atom through a door to the Carrier leaving Nikola alone with a deceased Grifter as she changes back into the Void pleading for help.
