Synopsis for "The End"
Captain Atom is forcefully brought to the Authority's Carrier and meeting with Jack Hawksmoor, The Doctor, and a time frozen Mister Majestic. Hawksmoor then stated to Atom that the he (Adam) may be a "nice guy", he must be kill in order to prevent the destruction of the Wildstorm Universe. Atom pleads to everyone that killing himself will only cause the destruction of the universe. Jack points out that the Doctor had traveled one year into the future and finding their world intact, furthermore gives that killing Captain Atom is the reasonable answer in saving their universe. But Atom tries to point that he have too travel to the future and that killing himself is not the answer and that there is something that everyone hasn't realize. Jack refuse to listen any more of Captain Atom's reasons and orders Apollo to kill him. Just as Apollo uses his eyebeams on Atom, suddenly his attack unexpectedly cause a chain reaction within Atom, causing him to glow.
Back on Earth, Nikola, in her Void form, sadly laments to a deceased Grifter that she couldn't do anything to prevent what is happening and doesn't believe herself to be a superhero. Then at the same moment of Captain Atom's reaction on the Carrier, Nikola notice this and fully controls her powers stating that Grifter has been right about her all along.
Back on the Carrier, Captain Atom's reaction damage the surrounding room of the shiftship and he himself has been changed to a dark radiant and foreboding form. Jack Hawksmoor then questions the Doctor about their efforts of saving the universe came to be "alright". The Doctor stated that though the universe will be save, but he doesn't mention of them surviving in the outcome. Taking chances, Hawksmoor then orders Apollo again to absorb the energies of Captain Atom and kill him before he could do anything.
On Earth, Nikola tells to Grifter that she must go to the "end" in order to ensure that there is "another beginning".
Captain Atom pleads to Apollo that killing him wouldn't work. However, Apollo refuses to listen and is instantly incinerated to a charred skeleton upon touching Captain Atom. Shocked in seeing his husband's death, Midnighter disobeys Hawksmoor's warnings and vengefully attempt to kill Captain Atom, but is also kill like Apollo. Frantically, Hawksmoor orders the Doctor to unfreeze Majestic in order to have more help in stopping Atom. Hawksmoor then questions to Captain Atom that killing every being at a time is what he will do in the destruction of the universe, in which Atom respond that killing everything is what he will do. Furthermore, Atom states there is nothing to stop him and hopes for Hawksmoor to "pray for a miracle".
Nikola is then seen flying to the Carrier stating that she will become "whole again".
Majestic is then unfroze by the Doctor and realize what has happen then grabs Hawksmoor demanding him what he has done, which Jack admits that he was wrong from the beginning. Before Majestic could do anything to Hawksmoor, Jenny Quantum enters the room and is very disappointed in Jack for allowing the destruction of their universe to happen. She then approach to Captain Atom stating that she, the spirit of the 21st century, will solve everything with a "happy ending". However, as she touches Captain Atom, she too is kill. Shocked in seeing her death, Hawksmoor berates Atom and the Doctor (for making "tasteless jokes" about Jenny Quantum's death) for Quantum's death. However, the Doctor reason that he isn't making a joke, and that the death of Jenny Quantum signifies the actual end of their universe, and that it is inevitable for anyone to do. He then ask Jack if he is going to end his last moments "whining and fighting", in which Hawksmoor softly reply "no". Hearing this, the Doctor then reply to him to stand up as they "have company" in which turns out to be Nikola, now accepting and calling herself as the Void, appearing in everyone's presence. Void, committing what nobody has done, successfully remove and regain her other piece of her fragment from Captain Atom, preventing Atom's destruction of the universe and as well in causing him to revert back to his regular appearance. Void then teleport Atom back to his universe as he said goodbye to her. After teleporting Captain Atom, Void reveal that she will end the Wildstorm Universe much to everyone's surprise. Furthermore, she explain that the reason she wants to end it is because due to the way of some superhumans, especially the Authority themselves, have been influencing the world into a "twisted image" that it is so much difficult for a "normal person" to endure. However, as she initiate the end of the universe, she will not only end it but also to begin anew (as it happen a "million times before"). She then creates a magnificent burst of light, thus recreating the Wildstorm Universe.
With the creation of the new Wildstorm Universe, many of the inhabitants of Earth, including a already alive Grifter, with their new recreated lives felt the rebirth of their universe but yet seem to be oblivious to the nature of the change they have just experienced.
Meanwhile Captain Atom finally returns to his universe and crash lands into the ruins of Bludhaven during the events of the Infinite Crisis. Relieved to be home, Captain Atom then remembers of traveling a week ahead in the Wildstorm Universe and recalling what Nikola has said to him before leaving to the present: "It's not what you think". Atom then realize that Nikola herself saves her world and contained the "Worldstorm".
Notes
- The event of the "Worldstorm" coincide with the DCU event of the Infinite Crisis in which it also recreated the DC universe. Eventually the designation of the Wildstorm Universe is revealed in 52 to be a part of the 52 Multiverse as Earth-50.
- Apparently, Nikola Hanssen is the only one in the whole Wildstorm Universe to remember the reboot.
