Captain Marvel Adventures #100 is an issue of the series Captain Marvel Adventures (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1949.

Synopsis for "The Plot Against the Universe"

Dr. Sivana comes up with a new angle in getting rid of Captain Marvel: attack Shazam, who bestows the hero his power. Even though he knows about the wizard, though, Sivana doesn't know how he and Marvel interact. At the same time, Mr. Tawny's working on his memoirs and realizes that despite being one of Captain Marvel's closest friends, he doesn't know how the hero got his powers. He asks Billy, who agrees to take Tawny to the cave where he meets Shazam's ghost when he needs help. The wizard explains he's able to appear because of his magical Shazamium bracelet. As they're leaving, Sivana captures Tawny and escapes in a time machine. He uses a hypno-ray to force Tawny to tell him where the wizard's secret lair is, then travels back to when Billy was first empowered. He hides behind the statue of Envy to kill Billy before he gets his powers. However, Tawny manages to bump Sivana so he hits his head on the statue and gets knocked out, allowing history to proceed as it had before, and Captain Marvel appears for the first time.

Tawny takes Sivana back to the time machine to deliver him to the authorities in their own time. Once they're back in 1949, Sivana manages to give him the slip by screaming he's being attacked by an escaped tiger. He makes it back to his ship and disappears. Soon Billy arrives at Shazam's cave, summons the wizard and asks to see his Shazamium bracelet. Once he has it, he rips off a mask to reveal he was Sivana in disguise the whole time! With the bracelet he's untouchable, and without it Shazam will disappear forever within 24 hours. When the real Billy, having rescued Tawny and heard his story, comes to the wizard's cave for advice, he finds the spectral Sivana summoned instead! He relates the fate that awaits Shazam, and because he's the wizard's benefactor, the fate that also awaits Marvel!

In order to save Shazam, Sivana demands Marvel accompany him to the Rock of Eternity, and aid in his conquest. Marvel righteously refuses, but Shazam tells him to as he's told, "so it is written." Marvel agrees for the time being, motivated solely by faith in his mentor. The task Marvel's given is to make robots out of Sivanium, a "living metal" that can be used to make perfect duplicates of Sivana. He plans to send them out into every world and time that can be accessed from the Rock of Eternity, and take over. Alone for a minute, Marvel vents his frustrations by smashing the latest Sivana duplicate he's made to bits. He isn't any closer to saving Shazam as time ticks down, but it's given Marvel an idea...

Marvel creates a robot of himself to keep making imitation Sivanas to keep the real from suspecting anything while he's gone. The hero flies to a metalworks and devises a new element, which he calls Marvelium. Soon, Sivana overhears Billy Batson making his broadcast, and realizes the Marvel who's been building robots is a fake. Sivana flies to WHIZ to get to the bottom of this, where Billy admits defeat and says he's built a memorial to the great genius. His ego piqued, Sivana enters, but finds himself trapped despite his ethereal form. Marvel can easily take back the Shazamium bracelet and gives it to Shazam in the nick of time (the duplicate Marvel and the duplicate Sivanas having destroyed each other in a terrific brawl in the meantime). Marvel tells the wizard he wishes he hadn't been ordered to go along with Sivana's schemes, but the wizard points out doing so was what let him get the upper hand: by figuring out how to use Sivanium, he was able to keep Sivana distracted and come up with the plan to build a cell inescapable even to the supernatural. If he'd tried to attack Sivana head-on, he would've just wasted valuable time.
