The Golden Age begins with the invention of the Superhero genre, usually attributed to the first appearance of Superman in 1938, although the companies that later became DC Comics entered the comic book field in 1935 with the publication of New Fun Comics #1. The Golden Age ended with the creation of the Comics Code Authority in 1955. The publishing era following the Golden Age is known as the Silver Age, and is commonly attributed to the introduction of the second Flash in September of 1956.
