Earth-whatever Characters[]

I'm considering moving all of the "Earth-whatever Character" categories into a Category:Characters by universe of origin category to reduce the redundancy and slimline the subcats. I'm not sure how far to take it, and would appreciate some feedback.

  1. Should this new category include television and movie characters, or should a separate category be created for them?
  2. How should we deal with self-contained storylines, such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Y: The Last Man; list each one separately, or treat them all as a subgroup? If treated separately, there are potentially dozens. If lumped into a subcategory, what to call it?

I'm sure there will be more as I delve deeper into the Character categories. This is actually just an off-shoot of my work with Category:Realities.

weird sorting[]

What is up with the characters preceding the numbered ones? Why is Richard Grayson (Earth-43) before Two-Six and not with the Rs? NotACleverPyro (talk) 22:00, May 6, 2015 (UTC)

I don't know what the issue is, but it's to do with sorting. I just resolved the Richard Grayson case by making a spelling fix on the page. Either the character pages need to be updated so that the cache realizes where to put them, or they're using a wonky version of the old character template. I think most of them could be resolved by just entering the editor for the page, doing nothing, and then publishing it again - but it couldn't hurt to add to them if you're doing it. - Hatebunny (talk) 22:08, May 6, 2015 (UTC)
I tried that on Cloud (New Earth), didn't work. --Tupka217 22:23, May 6, 2015 (UTC)
Tried it on Immortal Man in Darkness IV (New Earth), didn't work either. NotACleverPyro (talk) 00:44, May 7, 2015 (UTC)
It's because people filled out the "Alignment" with things other than the three valid options of "good", "Bad" or "neutral". - Hatebunny (talk) 14:45, May 9, 2015 (UTC)

Sub-Category Cleanup[]

I don't know if anyone's willing to take this on, but since we now have the ability to expand subcategories to show sub-subcategories and so on, it makes it a lot easier to do this. It seems to me there are probably a lot of weird subcategories that shouldn't exist; normal subcategories that should exist, but don't; and most blaringly, characters (and sub-subcategories) who don't belong in categories that they are in. I'd be happy enough to have people just point out issues that they notice here, rather than fixing it themselves if they don't feel like it, but some work on it would be nice. - Hatebunny (talk) 17:56, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
