Sorrow Street is a Catwoman storyline written by Doug Moench with illustrations by Ed Hannigan. It was published in the anthology title Showcase '93. The story leads into a new Catwoman series, which begins with Jo Duffy's Lifelines.

Synopsis

Catwoman lives on Storrow Street in the Brideshead neighborhood, sharing an apartment with her artist friend Arizona. The neighborhood is threatened when a crimelord named Bracuda moves his operation in. He begins forcing out the local criminals with violence, forcing Catwoman to intervene. Her cats die from a meth overdose, and Arizona gets beaten up when she investigates the shared dumpster.[1] Arizona heals from her injuries, and takes up painting. Catwoman talks to all the shop owners on her street, and finds they were all bullied into selling by a crooked realtor. When she finally gets a lead on some of Bracuda's thugs leaving his hideout, they open fire on her with a machine gun.[2] Catwoman escapes, and sets up a meeting with a cop. The next night she breaks into Barcuda's house and steals his things. Her police contact is revealed as one of Barcuda's corrupt officers, and they ambush her again. Robin helps take down the cops, and reports them to Commissioner Gordon. Barcuda grows furious, and bites his own men to death for their failure. More shop-keepers are killed, and the street erupts into a full-blown riot.[3] While the shop-owners are fighting the thugs, Catwoman breaks into Bracuda's crime factory. Robin arrives to help, and the police intervene in the riot. Bracuda is an even match for Catwoman, but he's forced to flee because of the police. Catwoman is satisfied with driving him out, but Robin is angry that she didn't take him down. In the aftermath, she collects Bracuda's assets and makes a lot of money. The shop-owners get their shops back, but the street is now marred by tragedy.[4]
