Renaud was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 15 he and his family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He graduated Parkland High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1985 and attended Baum School of Art. Renaud has lived since 2008 in Paris with his wife, Lauren, and their two children, John and Kiely.
Chris Renaud is an American illustrator and filmmaker. After graduating from Syracuse University with an illustration degree in 1989, Renaud began work as a graphic designer in the sports entertainment industry. His debut in the comic book industry was in 1993 working for Personality Comics as a penciler on the title Spoon vs. Batbabe. His first work for DC Comics was in 1995 as a penciler for the title Legion of Super-Heroes. He developed the original story concept that evolved into Batman: Cataclysm. During that time he also worked for Marvel Comics on the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy comics.
In the early 2000's, he began working for Disney on their TV channel Disney Channel. He departed the comic book industry to pursue a career as a television producer and filmmaker. He is probably best known for his work as the director of the Despicable Me franchise.
