Clay Kendall was a scientist, and an associate of Carol Ferris working at Ferris Aircraft.

Clay Kendall lead a scientific project at Ferris Aircraft attempting to access the 90 percent of the brain power that mankind doesn't use. Among his assistants were his fiancee April O'Rourke and Jake Ramirez. At moments of crisis for the company, Clay made it his mission to succeed in his experiments and save his coworkers from bankruptcy.[1]

He came into frequent contact with the Green Lantern, and was accidentally crippled when the Demolition Team attacked Ferris Aircraft.[2] He dealt with depression after being confined to a wheelchair, but his fiance, April, helped him get back on track with his life. Unfortunately, he was again struck with bad news when Mr. Smith, the new executive administrator, fired both of them from the company.[3]

Years later, Clay returned along with April and Jake to Coast City to rebuild Ferris Aircraft[4], which was destroyed during a battle between Green Lantern and Eclipso.[5] However, their efforts were in vain, because the entire Coast City was destroyed by Mongul and Cyborg Superman. Clay died, along with the rest of the population, during that attack.[6]

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Clay Kendall is based on a character (of the same name) Len Wein created for a story in Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery #33.[7]
