Synopsis for Wonder Woman: "The Battle for Eternal Youth"

A girl called Roba is used by a gang of criminals to discover the location of the Fountain of Youth. She is taken to the island of the Amazons when Wonder Woman accidentally strikes her in a swimming pool. While Hippolyta and Wonder Woman are alone on a beach she captures them using the Lasso, and places a Venus Girdle on Wonder Woman meaning she must obey her, after hearing they have both been called Wonder Woman by Hippolyta, as they are both wearing identical clothing, she thinks they are twins who take each other's place. She hides the Girdle under a scarf, binds and blindfolds Hippolyta, gags her with a rock and cloth, and leaves with Wonder Woman, taking her to Reform Island. Hippolyta is able to crush the rock that gags her and get other Amazons for help. Wonder Woman is bound with the lasso with the criminals about to kill her with helicopter blades, but Roba unties her and Wonder Woman defeats the crooks.

Synopsis for Green Lantern: "Grin and Bear It"

Alan Scott comes home, mentally exhausted from fighting crime all day. Doiby Dickles comes home complaining about exhaustion from putting up with rude customers in his taxi all day. Frustrated by his own exhaustion, Alan tells Doiby off, saying the cabbie's got nothing on a crimefighter like him. Doiby bets Alan can't be a cabbie from sun up to sundown without losing his temper at the customers, and Alan accepts. Alan finds out cabbies do have to put up with a lot of spitfires, but even worse is when he gets attacked by gangsters from a taxi protection racket. The crooks are eventually caught, with Alan accepting he lost the bet but Doiby insisting he won. They make so much noise arguing over it the neighbors start throwing trash at them from the windows.

Notes

  • Published bi-monthly by National Comics Publications, Inc. This 76-page magazine sold for fifteen cents a copy, in an era when almost all other comics were 64 pages, for ten cents.
  • "Mister Nobody" appears in this issue, and his real name is not given. Justice League of America #116 retroactively established Nobody as an alias of Johnny Peril, making this his first appearance. The identity of the elderly lady is left to the reader's imagination. She can be a djinn, an angel or even the Fairy Godmother.

Trivia

  • Wonder Woman's story:
    • The first name of the character Roba Jewel means "to steal" in Spanish. The end of the story implies that Roba became permanently one of the Amazons, living in Paradise Island.
  • Flash's story:
    • The story mentions that Joshua rose in his "stirrups". One problem with Joshua historicity is that the Scriptures indicate that the period of the Judges was about 400 years (1400–1000 B.C.)[1]. The earliest known saddle-like equipment were fringed cloths or pads with breast pads and cruppers used by Assyrian cavalry around 700 BC, then would be impossible to have stirrups in Joshua period.
