Synopsis for "The Home Front: To Serve Rann"

The Baker and Strange families arrive on Rann, in the High Council Chambers in Ranagar, and are attacked by Sardath, who's still infected. Animal Man subdues Sardath with sleeping-gas abilities borrowed from an unidentified creature. This horrifies his wife Ellen, who's still adjusting to being on another planet. The group goes outside and find the city in shambles. Adam Strange finds a survivor, who tells him that Champ Hazard and the other Stygian infectees have headed to the spaceport to prepare an attack on the Thanagarians.

Adam Strange elects to go to the spaceport, leaving Animal Man to escort Starfire up to the Rannian suns so that she can restore her powers. This infuriates Ellen, who has begun to fear that Buddy is in love with Starfire. Animal Man tells her that he doesn't have time to assuage her fears about his friendship with Starfire, and then carries the princess up towards the suns. On the way up, Starfire admonishes Buddy for ignoring his wife and tells him that whatever his feelings towards her, she is not in love with him.

Meanwhile, Adam Strange finds the Rannian fleet and hijacks one of the troop carriers. This draws out Champ Hazard, who attacks him inside the carrier. Strange leads Hazard over to the controls, and while Hazard is distracted in pummeling him, he puts the carrier into a dive, sending it right into the Rannian fleet. The resulting explosion takes out all the ships, and Strange flies off, leaving the spaceport in flames.

Animal Man and Starfire reach Rann's upper atmosphere, where Starfire intends to recharge her powers using Rann's three suns. Buddy is reluctant to leave, fretting that the power of three suns might overload Kory and kill her, but the princess rebuffs him. As Buddy descends, Starfire combusts from all the energy, and the force of this knocks Animal Man out cold, but he is saved by Starfire, who is now fully charged again.

Adam Strange and Champ Hazard end up on the outskirts of Ranagar, where Hazard makes a last effort to kill Strange, who has been knocked unconscious from the explosion at the Spaceport. This klling is averted by the arrival of Animal Man, who accesses the strength of a bull-like creature in order to knock Hazard away. As Animal Man tries to revive Strange, Hazard initiates a Zeta Beam to Earth, then remotely triggers a bomb hidden in the High Council building.

Starfire uses her newly-recharged powers to burn away the Stygian Virus, thus curing all of Rann. Adam is reunited with Sardath, while Buddy manages to patch things up between him and Ellen. This happy moment is interrupted, however, when Sardath picks up a news broadcast from Earth, where the Healers are attempting to sterilize San Diego...
