Quote1 My brief "death" has given me a new perspective on life, gentlemen. As I floated in the spiritual limbo where Desaad's uni-cannon blast propelled me, I came to treasure the memory of living things... the soft glow of the sun at dawn, the gentle waft of a breeze across one's brow, even the scent of a flower in bloom. Yes, even a god may be affected by his own "death." I shall never forgive myself for such weakness! NEVER! Quote2

Synopsis

Crisis Between Two Earths is a crossover between the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America, written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Dick Dillin. It's published in Justice League of America as part of their annual Crisis on Multiple Earths team-up stories, preceded by Crisis above Earth-One and followed by Crisis in Limbo. This storyline features the JLA and JSA teaming up with the New Gods of New Genesis to fight Darkseid on Apokolips.

Synopsis

For their annual meet-up, the Justice League of Earth-One and Justice Society of Earth-Two decide to divide half their members on each Earth. There's an accident and Batman, Doctor Fate, Firestorm, Green Lantern, Huntress, Power Girl, Superman and Wonder Woman are instead brought to New Genesis. They are immediately met by Orion, who they fight until Metron arrives with Big Barda and Mister Miracle to explain the situation. It's revealed that they were brought there deliberately to help, as Darkseid has used the Injustice Society to help him enslave all the New Gods. They mount a rescue mission into the orphanages of Granny Goodness. However, they're too late to stop the Injustice Society from activating a beam that rematerializes Darkseid and brings him back from his apparent death.[1] Firestorm, Orion and Power Girl battle Fiddler, Icicle and Shade but are unable to stop them from recreating Darkseid's physical form. Barda takes Superman and Wonder Woman to meet the underground resistance fighters, who are mostly children lacking the capacity to even understand love. One of them is telepathic and he sees the explanation for Darkseid's return in a vision. It's explained that Darkseid's willpower is so strong he managed to breach the barrier of death and communicate with the Injustice Society, submitting them to his control and forcing them to do his bidding from beyond the grave. This caused them to enslave the citizens of New Genesis with Fiddler's Fiddle and build the recreator machine to bring back his physical body. Doctor Fate, Green Lantern and Oberon rescue Highfather from his imprisonment. When Batman, Huntress and Mister Miracle break into Darkseid's throne room, they discover he is plotting to transport Apokolips into Earth-Two where there are no New Gods to oppose him; Apokolips will obliterate that Earth and this will allow him to conquer the universe.[2] Darkseid finally returns to his throne room, but the heroes converge as they rescue their captured and bring Highfather into the battle. Barda, Superman and Wonder Woman personally take down Granny Goodness. Orion finally confronts his father in their final battle, and Firestorm hurts Darkseid by restructuring molecules to send his Omega Beams back towards him. Before the heroes can be completely overrun by Parademons, Batman, Huntress and Mister Miracle arrive with the freed citizens of New Genesis rising up against their oppressors. They're unable to stop Darkseid from activating his device, but it's revealed that Metron interfered after much deliberation and reprogrammed it to fire at Darkseid instead. This blasts him from the cosmos and completely atomizes him, destroying him forever until his inevitable return. In the wake of the destruction, the heroes appreciate their victory but Metron sadly reflects that they still have a world to rebuild.[3]
