Crispus Allen is a dedicated cop working in the Gotham City Police Department underneath Commissioner Gordon with Renee Montoya as his partner. His relationship with Gotham City's vigilante protector Batman is strained at best, and he struggles against the complicated legal nature of the situation. Following his death at the hands of a dirty cop named Jim Corrigan, he becomes the Spectre, his soul bonded to the personification of God's divine wrath. He works to keep the entity grounded in humanity when it judges the souls of the guilty and violently punishes them. Crispus Allen was created by Greg Rucka and Shawn Martinbrough, first appearing in Detective Comics #742. (2000)
