New Templates Edit

Jamie recently imported new template guides for DC characters and comic issue pages. These templates are also currently being used at the Marvel Database Project. Examples of these templates in use can be found here and here. Some editors may not feel comfortable adapting to this format just yet, but over time (hopefully), all articles on the DCDP will conform to the same format. If you have any questions, concerns or opinions regarding these sweeping changes, I invite you to particpate on the discussions pages at the MDP. Hopefully, you will find answers to all your questions there.

Unprotect DC Database:Race Template Edit

I would like to request that the DC Database:Race Template be unprotected. Having pages needlessly protected discourages editors from contributing, and the template has only 194 pages linking to it so it would not be a priority for spammers. --Odie5533 22:39, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

DC Database Portal be changed to DC Database:Community Portal Edit

On the Main Page in the bottom right is a link to the "mother box". I think the link should be changed to link to DC Database:Community Portal and the DC Database Portal page should be changed to a redirect to the community portal as well. --Odie5533 14:33, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

DC Database:Community Portal fixes Edit

I propose the wiki's template be fixed to link to the actual DC Database:Community Portal instead of to the redirect DC Database:Community portal (note the capitalization of Portal). The fix can be accomplished by an admin going to MediaWiki:Portal-url and changing the lowercase portal to an uppercase Portal.

New Background Edit

I like the new background from the New 52 series for the Wikia, but the character look cut out. I found a higher resolution source and added a small gradient as well. Improve Main Page Edit

The Main Page has very limited content to engage users. I think this should be improved. I added a blog posts box to a userfied version and I fixed the indentation on the comic listings in the right sidebar. You can see my changes here. It won't look right using the Oasis (default) theme because of the extra sidebar, but the changes do work. --Odie5533 16:48, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

The blog listing seems to be a real hit! I am seeing daily posts listed there, whereas it used to be only 1 or 2 a week. I am glad to see users are being engaged by the project using this method, and I hope blog usage can continue to increase. I believe we should now consider other options for engaging users:

• News features
• Reviews – A section specifically for comic reviews
• Outside advertising – not really sure how to accomplish this. Perhaps Wikia Central could assist.

I noticed the Help:Ask a DCPedian has not seen much use. We could try featuring it on the main page slider to see if that helps. Anyone have an idea for a picture/text to show on the slider? --Odie5533 20:50, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think there's need for a news section, there are plenty of news sites already and it will be too cumbersome to keep up to date - we would be copying other sites. Outside advertising is done by wikia. I think Ask a DC Pedian could go in the slider, we have one spot still open after all. That's a great idea. --Tupka²¹⁷ 21:03, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

Updating the Comic List on the Main Page Edit
