Synopsis for the 1st Story
The DC Universe is at war! There is a war to see who will Reign in Hell, a War That Time Forgot, and the outbreak of an unprecedented Holy War between Rann and Thanagar. These battles all lead to the ultimate war between good and evil when Final Crisis hits the stands in May. We're headed toward some seriously huge events, and the winners and losers of these struggles will determine the future of the DCU. Pretty heavy stuff, huh? Hi, it's Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler again to bring you an update from the front lines of the battlefield. I'm here to give you advance warning of what's coming up so you don't miss a moment of the action. In a way, I'm a little bit like the Paul Revere of the DCU. Or at least I think I am since I was a B- history student in school and sometimes I get my facts mixed up. He was the guy with the horse, right? Either way, I'm sure about my DCU facts, so let's take a closer look at Rann/Thanagar: Holy War.
The conflict between these two races goes back to the beginning of Infinite Crisis when the sudden appearance of the planet Rann in Thanagar's star system resulting in Thanagar's orbit becoming destabilized and the planet becoming uninhabitable. The surviving Thanagarians became refugees on Rann and before long, tensions and territorial disputes caused a war to erupt. After the battle ended, Thanagar's orbit was corrected and the planet is once again habitable. Even with this progress, everything is still not settled in the region with a sizable number of Thanagarians still living as refugees on Rann, while some Rannians have colonized other planets in the sector of the universe where Rann used to be.
Tensions in the area continue to rise as fanatical religions have risen to prominence among both populations. During Countdown to Adventure, Lady Styx's forces attacked Rann and spread her viral religion throughout the population. While these people were cured of the virus and freed from Styx's control, they were left with a lasting imprint of Lady Styx and have begun to build a religion around what they think is her divine grace. At the same time, the Church of Eternal Light Corporation, led by Deacon Dark, has become an increasingly influential (and dangerous) power with the Thanagarians.
In Rann/Thanagar: Holy War old hostilities and new religions clash as war is declared! Nothing will ever be the same when Lady Styx returns to finish her conversion of Rann—but will those who now worship her attempt to stop her tyranny? At the same time Deacon Dark unleashes a plot that defines a major new evil in the DCU and brings the Church of Eternal Light into direct conflict with Styx. As usual, our heroes are stuck in the middle of a bad situation as Adam Strange, Hawkman, Animal Man, Starfire, Comet, the L.E.G.I.O.N. and more try desperately to stop the conflict.
Rann/Thanagar: Holy War is an 8-issue series brought to you by Jim Starlin and Ron Lim. They have plenty of twists and turns planned, so get ready to see new characters, some surprise guests, and find out if this is a war that can only end in tragedy.
