Dan "Terrible" Turpin, also known as Brooklyn, is the toughest police officer in Metropolis and a frequent ally of Superman. He fought as one of the Boy Commandos in World War II, an elite commando team of orphaned children led by Captain Rip Carter. He would go on to become a member of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit dealing with superhuman threats, where he would work closely alongside his long-time partner Maggie Sawyer. His adventures have crossed with the New Gods several times, and during Final Crisis he was involuntary selected to be the human host of Darkseid and died. Dan Turpin was created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jack Kirby, first appearing as "Brooklyn" in Detective Comics #64. (1942) His first appearance in his reintroduction as an adult was by Kirby in New Gods #5. (1971)
