Inspector Daniel Turpin was a detective and right hand to Maggie Sawyer. He rarely followed protocol, but he was usually kept in check by Sawyer.
During Darkseid's first invasion of Earth, Turpin and the rest of the SCU fought off the armies of parademons. Defiant to the end, he was killed by Darkseid's Omega Beams as the despot retreated.
