Darkseid (pronouced "Darkside") is a New God and an all-powerful, god-like supervillain that rules over Apokolips and is a prominent enemy of the Justice League. Originally known as Uxas, he gained a rock-like appearance and became Darkseid after murdering his brother Drax and taking his powers (in The New 52, he tricked and killed his world's gods, taking their powers)

Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby in 1970, appearing as a cameo in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #134 then making a proper introduction in Forever People #1.
